Week 8 NFL Picks

Updated: Oct 31, 2024

**All betting lines from bet365.com** (Updated Oct. 27)

Minnesota Vikings (5-1) @ Los Angeles Rams (2-4)

Teams are 0-4 straight up and against the spread this season the following week after playing the Lions. Will the Vikings fall victim to that same hangover on a short week? I'm thinking they will as this Rams offense should get a shot in the arm with the return of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. Pick: Rams, 24-21.

Line: Vikings -3

ML: Rams

Spread: Rams

Baltimore Ravens (5-2) @ Cleveland Browns (1-6)

It's been a dismal season for the Browns to this point and now Deshaun Watson will miss the remainder of the year after he fell victim to an Achilles' injury. I think this Ravens defense will give Jameis Winston fits at the line of scrimmage, so it's just a matter of containing Nick Chubb who is averaging 4.73 YPC for his career against Baltimore. Pick: Ravens, 24-16.

Line: Ravens -8.5

ML: Ravens

Spread: Browns

Tennessee Titans (1-5) @ Detroit Lions (5-1)

The Lions came away with an impressive win over the Vikings last week and now control their own path to an NFC North title. Next up, the lowly Titans who are likely to trot Mason Rudolph out under center again this week and Dan Campbell's group should feast on a weakened wide receiver corps. Pick: Lions, 28-15.

Line: Lions -11.5

ML: Lions

Spread: Lions

Indianapolis Colts (4-3) @ Houston Texans (5-2)

This is an important divisional matchup and the Texans come into it on the heels of a back-breaking loss in Green Bay last week. The key for the Colts is to get Anthony Richardson going in the pass game as it really feels like he's been unsettled in the pocket so far this year. The return of Jonathan Taylor should help open some play action, but C.J. Stroud and company will be looking to atone for last week's game. Pick: Texans, 27-20.

Line: Texans -4.5

ML: Texans

Spread: Texans

Green Bay Packers (5-2) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (2-5)

The Jags finally found an offensive rhythm last week in England and quite frankly it's about time. Tank Bigsby looks like the lead back moving forward, even if Travis Etienne Jr. makes his way back from injury and I've been impressed with rookie Brian Thomas Jr. It will be a stiff test at home for Doug Pederson's crew as the Packers rank 6th in total offense. Pick: Packers, 27-17.

Line: Packers -4

ML: Packers

Spread: Packers

Arizona Cardinals (3-4) @ Miami Dolphins (2-4)

Some interesting news out of Miami this week as the team will welcome back Tua Tagovailoa to the lineup. Now many, including myself, are skeptical of this decision despite him passing the concussion protocol in recent weeks. It's a boost for the offense, but you can't help but wonder for how long? Pick: Dolphins, 24-17.

Line: Dolphins -4

ML: Dolphins

Spread: Dolphins

New York Jets (2-5) @ New England Patriots (1-6)

The Steelers spoiled Davante Adams' debut with the Jets last week and now their backs are against the wall clinging to their playoff lives. This team needs a quick turnaround and it has to start this week against the Pats. Aaron Rodgers referenced a powerful speech by Adams following last week's loss, so we'll see if the team responds. Pick: Jets, 23-13.

Line: Jets -7

ML: Jets

Spread: Jets

Atlanta Falcons (4-3) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3)

The Bucs lost both of their star wideouts last week -- Mike Evans and Chris Godwin -- and will look to their young core to pick up the slack against the Falcons. Despite Baker Mayfield's strong play this year, I can't see this offense overcoming those two injuries and Raheem Morris's scheme should be able to take advantage. Pick: Falcons, 24-17.

Line: Falcons -2.5

ML: Falcons

Spread: Falcons

Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) @ Cincinnati Bengals (3-4)

The Bengals are back in playoff contention after a slow start and Joe Burrow might be playing the best football of his career. This is a pivotal game for both sides and the key matchup comes down to the Bengals' ability to slow down Saquon Barkley. The Bengals rank 21st against stopping the run, while the Eagles have the 2nd ranked rush offense. Pick: Bengals, 27-24.

Line: Bengals -2.5

ML: Bengals

Spread: Bengals

New Orleans Saints (2-5) @ Los Angeles Chargers (3-3)

The Saints will be without Derek Carr for the third straight game and will once again rely on their defense to slow down a strong rushing attack by the Chargers. We've definitely seen Jim Harbaugh's fingerprints all over this team to start the year and he's taking the pressure off Justin Herbert by dedicating to the run game. Pick: Chargers, 24-16.

Line: Chargers -7

ML: Chargers

Spread: Chargers

Buffalo Bills (5-2) @ Seattle Seahawks (4-3)

The Seahawks stunned the Falcons on the road last week and now have some momentum heading home, with the NFC West lead hanging in the balance. It's a tough blow to be without DK Metcalf, so a veteran like Tyler Lockett will need to be a reliable presence for Geno Smith. Pick: Bills, 24-20.

Line: Bills -3

ML: Bills

Spread: Bills

Chicago Bears (4-2) @ Washington Commanders (5-2)

There was a lot of talk that Jayden Daniels would miss this game, but the plan is for him to take warmups with a real chance to suit up. Everyone wants to see this matchup with Caleb Williams on the other sideline, but the biggest question will be about Dan Quinn's defense rising to the occasion here. We know Daniels won't be fully healthy if he does play, so they will need to force Williams into some mistakes if they want to win this game. Pick: Bears, 20-17.

Line: Bears -1

ML: Bears

Spread: Bears

Carolina Panthers (1-6) @ Denver Broncos (4-3)

The Panthers are decimated by injuries and will be without their top two receivers in Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen. It wasn't a favorable matchup being on the road at Mile High to begin with and it feels like Bryce Young will be a sitting duck for this Broncos defense. Pick: Broncos, 24-10.

Line: Broncos -11

ML: Broncos

Spread: Broncos

Kansas City Chiefs (6-0) @ Las Vegas Raiders (2-5)

There was a lot made of the Raiders mocking Patrick Mahomes back in training camp and of course the Chiefs' leader said it would get handled when it's time. Well, the time has come as these two teams meet for the first time this season and I think it will be Kareem Hunt that gets the bulk of the work in this game. Look for this stout Chiefs defense to keep smothering the Raiders in what should be a blowout. Pick: Chiefs, 28-13.

Line: Chiefs -9.5

ML: Chiefs

Spread: Chiefs

Dallas Cowboys (3-3) @ San Francisco 49ers (3-4)

The Cowboys were embarrassed by the Lions two weeks ago and need a huge reset coming out of their bye week to get back on track. Unfortunately, they head into San Francisco where they haven't had much success in recent years and the Niners are absolutely desperate for a win. The Cowboys are still shorthanded on defense and that creates too big of a mismatch against the Niners' offensive weapons. Pick: 49ers, 24-17.

Line: 49ers -4.5

ML: 49ers

Spread: 49ers

New York Giants (2-5) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)

Mike Tomlin drew a line in the sand last week and decided to start Russell Wilson against the Jets. The move paid off, as Wilson seemingly turned back the clock throwing with some great touch while showing poise under center. Look for the Steelers' defense to cause problems for Daniel Jones as the home team should coast here. Pick: Steelers, 23-14.

Line: Steelers -6

ML: Steelers

Spread: Steelers
