Week 2 NFL Picks

Updated: Sep 18, 2022

What a start to the 2022 season as last week's games had their share of nail biters and dramatic finishes. The Bills made an opening night statement by blowing the doors off the Rams in the second half on their way to a 31-10 win over the defending Super Bowl champions. And, a stunner to end the week as the Seahawks stood their ground at home, ruining Russell Wilson's return to Seattle. This week will feature some 0-1 teams looking for redemption and a pivotal AFC West matchup to kick things off on Thursday night.

**All betting lines from bet365.com** (Updated Sept. 18)

Los Angeles Chargers (1-0) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)

Patrick Mahomes is 2-2 against Justin Herbert and both victories required late game heroics in come-from-behind fashion. I picked the Chargers to win the West this year and I'm simply siding with the home field advantage here considering Keenan Allen and possibly J.C. Jackson will sit this game out. Pick: Chiefs, 27-24.

Line: Chiefs -4

ML: Chiefs

Spread: Chargers

Carolina Panthers (0-1) @ New York Giants (1-0)

Brian Daboll took a big gamble going for the two-point conversion in the 4th quarter and it paid off against the Titans. Saquon Barkley looked revived, however I think the Panthers need to get Christian McCaffrey more involved and I think the Giants come back off their emotional high. Pick: Panthers, 20-17.

Line: Panthers -1

ML: Panthers

Spread: Panthers

Indianapolis Colts (0-0-1) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1)

The Jaguars derailed the Colts' playoff chances in Week 18 last season and Frank Reich's squad will be motivated by that. However, the Colts have not won in Jacksonville since 2014 and the Jags just seem to have their number on home field. Pick: Jaguars, 23-20.

Line: Colts -3

ML: Jaguars

Spread: Jaguars

Miami Dolphins (1-0) @ Baltimore Ravens (1-0)

The Dolphins gave Lamar Jackson and the offense fits last year and there are some injury concerns again this week between Ronnie Stanley and Marcus Peters. I like the Ravens to hold firm in their home opener though and come away with a tough win. Pick: Ravens, 20-17.

Line: Ravens -3.5

ML: Ravens

Spread: Dolphins

New England Patriots (0-1) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0)

The Steelers came away with a hard fought win in overtime over the divisional rival Bengals and it represented everything Mike Tomlin is about: toughness. I wouldn't say Mitch Trubisky looked great last week, then again we know Mac Jones and the Patriots offense looked out of sorts. Pick: Steelers, 19-16.

Line: Patriots -3

ML: Steelers

Spread: Steelers

New York Jets (0-1) @ Cleveland Browns (1-0)

The Browns are riding high off a game-winning field goal in overtime last week and more notably, beating Baker Mayfield. Now, they host a lowly Jets team that could be in for a long season (don't show Robert Saleh this receipt) and I think the Browns continue leaning on their two-headed monster of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Pick: Browns, 20-14.

Line: Browns -6.5

ML: Browns

Spread: Jets

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0) @ New Orleans Saints (1-0)

Tom Brady is 1-4 against the Saints since coming to Tampa Bay (the lone win came in the playoffs in 2020 on their way to a Super Bowl win). This Saints defense seems to have the magic recipe against Brady and with Chris Godwin expected to miss this game and Mike Evans battling a calf injury, I think it's a tough road spot. Pick: Saints, 23-20.

Line: Buccaneers -2.5

ML: Saints

Spread: Saints

Washington Commanders (1-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-1)

The Commanders pulled out the win last week over the Jags, however, Carson Wentz was sloppy in that second half, throwing three picks that at one point led to the Jags taking a 4th quarter lead. Dan Campbell has the Lions playing gritty, never quit football and because of that I think they stun Washington this week. Pick: Lions, 27-24.

Line: Lions -1

ML: Lions

Spread: Lions

Atlanta Falcons (0-1) @ Los Angeles Rams (0-1)

Oh man, the Rams were embarrassed at home in the second half of last week's Thursday night game. I have to think with 10 days to prepare, Sean McVay has the defending Super Bowl champs out for blood and Marcus Mariota may be in for a long day. Pick: Rams, 28-16.

Line: Rams -10

ML: Rams

Spread: Rams

Seattle Seahawks (1-0) @ San Francisco 49ers (0-1)

Geno Smith was impressive on Monday night, playing near flawless football as the Seahawks stunned the Broncos. On the other side, the 49ers lost on the road in Chicago in what could be the worst field conditions played on this year. I'll give Trey Lance a pass for last week's weather, but this is a big spot at home against a division rival. Pick: 49ers, 21-14.

Line: 49ers -9

ML: 49ers

Spread: Seahawks

Arizona Cardinals (0-1) @ Las Vegas Raiders (0-1)

The Cardinals were completely flat last week getting routed at home by the Chiefs and to be honest, there might be some concerns already about Kyler Murray's contract extension. The Raiders gave their game away (more notably Derek Carr) in the second half last week to the Chargers and need this one badly. Pick: Raiders, 30-23.

Line: Raiders -5.5

ML: Raiders

Spread: Raiders

Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) @ Dallas Cowboys (0-1)

Joe Burrow turned the ball over five times last week to the Steelers (yikes!) and the Bengals fell short in overtime. Not the start Zac Taylor and the offense wanted and it's not going to be any easier this week against a Cowboys defense that led the NFL with 34 takeaways a year ago. The only difference being that Cooper Rush isn't Dak Prescott. Pick: Bengals, 27-17.

Line: Bengals -7

ML: Bengals

Spread: Bengals

Houston Texans (0-0-1) @ Denver Broncos (0-1)

The Broncos were out of rhythm on Monday night and turned the ball over twice at the goal line in a spot that would have given them the lead in the second half. Now, they host a Texans squad with some veteran players on defense that just gave the Colts all they could handle. Pick: Broncos, 24-16.

Line: Broncos -10

ML: Broncos

Spread: Texans

Chicago Bears (1-0) @ Green Bay Packers (0-1)

The Packers were absolutely flat in the season opener and based on the look of Aaron Rodgers' face when rookie Christian Watson dropped a walk-in touchdown on a deep ball, this season will have all the drama in Green Bay. Rodgers has owned the Bears in his career (22-5 lifetime) and I expect the team to show a complete effort this week. Pick: Packers, 26-14.

Line: Packers -10

ML: Packers

Spread: Packers

Tennessee Titans (0-1) @ Buffalo Bills (1-0)

Josh Allen is 2-2 lifetime against the Titans, but something doesn't seem right about Mike Vrabel's team heading into the season. Derrick Henry might be able to keep this game in reach and controlling the clock might be the Titans' biggest friend in this matchup. Pick: Bills, 26-17.

Line: Bills -10

ML: Bills

Spread: Titans

Minnesota Vikings (1-0) @ Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)

The Eagles held off the Lions last week and will now turn their attention to the Vikings, hot off a rout of the Packers. Justin Jefferson started the year with a bang and will be motivated again to prove he's the best receiver in the NFL. We could look back on this matchup come December as it could have early NFC playoff implications. Pick: Eagles, 28-24.

Line: Eagles -2.5

ML: Eagles

Spread: Eagles
