Did you make the cut? We finally made it to the fantasy football playoffs, meaning some of you will be duking it in your leagues for the big prize, but for others the once promising sight of a championship crown is now a distant memory. That's okay! The fantasy season doesn't have to stop here and you can turn your attention to daily fantasy. This week features some juicy matchups at your disposal, so let's dive into some DFS value plays for Week 14.
David Montgomery, RB - Chicago Bears (DK: $6,500 / FD: $6,600)
What an awful loss for the Bears last week, blowing a 10-point lead in the 4th quarter to the rival Lions (I guess kicking Matt Patricia out the door helped). But, it wasn't all bad for the Bears as Montgomery turned 21 touches into 111 total yards and two touchdowns. That's now back-to-back weeks with at least 20 fantasy points and now he's primed for another big performance against a Texans team that's given up the second-most fantasy points to opposing RB's this season. It's pretty clear that Matt Nagy has little confidence in either of his QB's right now and leaning on the run game makes Montgomery a must-start.
Giovani Bernard, RB - Cincinnati Bengals (DK: $5,000 / FD: $5,700)
The Bengals and Cowboys probably won't be high on the priority list for viewers this Sunday and rightfully so considering the two teams have combined for five wins this season. It's the classic revenge game scenario as Andy Dalton makes his return to Cincinnati, but I expect it to be pretty lacklustre. One thing we know for sure, is that the Cowboys defense has been abysmal as a whole this year, specifically against the run. The 'Boys have allowed opposing teams to rush for 100 yards in 10 out of 12 games, including three games of 200 yards and how could we forget the Week 4 massacre when the Browns went off for 307 yards on the ground? The Bengals don't have a potent offense, especially since Joe Burrow went down, but this could be an appetizing spot for Bernard to have a big day and it's hard to turn down the price.
Corey Davis, WR - Tennessee Titans (DK: $5,700 / FD: $6,800)
The Titans were embarrassed at home by the Browns last week (the 41-35 final didn't do it justice) and their offense never really got going until the second half. The lone bright spot was Davis, who hauled in 11 catches for 182 yards and a touchdown. Davis has now recorded 65 receiving yards in four straight games and has steadily become a focal point in this offense. Derrick Henry will likely get his share of touches in this game, but the Jags don't strike fear in their opponents defensively (surrendering the sixth-most FP to RB's and the fifth-most FP to WR's), so expect a balanced offensive attack from the Titans. Davis currently leads the team in receptions (53), yards (801), air yards (792) and aDot (11.31).
Chris Godwin, WR - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (DK: $6,300 / FD: $7,400)
Looking at the board this week you wouldn't think Godwin's name would pop up as a value
play, but it certainly is (specifically in DraftKings). Fantasy players could be scared off by this play because they think the Bucs have a crowded WR group, but Godwin has actually hit 90 yards or scored a touchdown in three of four games that Antonio Brown has played. Pair that with Mike Evans having a murky week at practice -- he's been dealing with a hamstring injury -- and Godwin could be in line for a big day. The Vikings have a young secondary and Mike Zimmer has seen his share of growing pains this season and Godwin should feast on a defense surrendering the third-most FP to wideouts this year.
Jonnu Smith, TE - Tennessee Titans (DK: $3,900 / FD: $5,400)
It seems counterproductive to have two members of the same team in this article, but I've always been a gambler and when it comes to surrendering touchdowns, the Jags do just that. In fact, this Jags defense has let a TE find the end zone in seven games this season and Smith took advantage of that back in Week 2 when he caught four passes for 84 yards and two scores. Smith didn't play last week against the Browns, but prior to that he had double-digit fantasy points in two out of three games (including two touchdowns). It's a high-risk touchdown dependant play, but I'm willing to bet he finds the end zone again on Sunday against a Jags team giving up the seventh-most fantasy points to the position.
